This unexpected oasis of organic food, home-brewed beer, and artisan wine sits deep in South Florida, surrounded by farmland, seasonal laborers, retirees, and the occasional off-the-grid wanderer. Its closest neighbor? The humble Homestead General Airport.
Schnebly is far from your average restaurant-winery-brewery combo. This isn’t just a place to grab a bite and sample exotic drinks — it’s a destination. In fact, you’ll want to plan your visit around lunch so you can explore with your senses fully awake. Peacocks strut across the grounds. Iguanas sunbathe near koi ponds. Turtles, squirrels, and lush tropical landscaping make the entire place feel like a garden carved out of the jungle. Take your time. A post-lunch stroll here might just become your favorite memory of the trip.
Somewhere in the middle of nowhere in South Florida, there’s a place called Schnebly — the southernmost winery on mainland USA.
This unexpected oasis of organic food, home-brewed beer, and artisan wine sits at the edge of farmland and subtropical sprawl — bordered by fields, quiet laborers, retirees, and the occasional off-the-grid wanderer. Its closest neighbor? The unassuming Homestead General Airport.
Schnebly is far more than a restaurant-winery-brewery combo. It’s an experience. Don’t come just to dine and dash. Come curious, and plan to stay a while. Peacocks strut across garden paths. Iguanas sunbathe on sun-dappled rocks. Koi ripple through ponds beside turtles and palms. With lush landscaping and tropical flair, the grounds feel more like a hidden garden than a rural escape. After a slow, satisfying lunch, take a stroll — it might be the most memorable part of your visit.
The neighboring farms are the main suppliers to The Redlander, Schnebly’s onsite restaurant. The dishes may sound exotic — and they often look it — but there’s nothing bizarre here. Everything tastes exactly as it should: natural, pure, and simple. Flamboyant tacos, local fish served with flair, and the aroma of fresh herbs tossed into every plate create a one-of-a-kind menu rooted in creativity.
The cooks at Schnebly aren’t confined by corporate recipes or rigid rules. They have the freedom to invent and adapt daily. I often chat with one of the kitchen managers, and the answer to my go-to question — “What’s new today?” — is always the same: “I don’t know. We’ll see!”
But this isn’t just any beer or any wine. Schnebly’s master brewer will guide you to your perfect pour. Like it bitter? Sweet? Dry? Tropical? Spicy? Just say the word — he’s got you covered. I recently overheard Aldo (yes, that’s his name), deep in conversation about crafting his finest wine yet.
If you’re a true wine lover, you’ve come to the right place. Schnebly offers wines made from unexpected tropical fruits: avocado, guava, lychee, mango, and more. These aren’t gimmicks — they’re full-bodied, flavorful, and proudly Floridian.
The Redland Winery ships across the U.S., and their wines are available online year-round. But if wine is your passion, consider joining The Wine Club. With the Elite Membership, you’ll receive two bottles every four months, tasting notes, and a welcome gift. The Premium Club ($60) delivers four bottles and VIP perks.
The Beer Garden is the place to go. I already lost count of the many brews available. It is like that guy, Aldo, imagines a new brew first thing in the morning every morning!!!
The Garden is usually packed, but parking space is aplenty. Remember, though, you are in the middle of nowhere. That's why, if you are not planning on driving your own car and riding Uber or Lyft is your weapon of choice, I recommend you to schedule a pick-up time. Signal is not that reliable in the midle of nowhere. Lyft and Uber offer a "pick-up" scheduling option.
